Chapter 11

For the first time at this tavern, Michael was reluctant to strong-arm Simon into an unwanted embrace as they pushed their way into the crowd. The man who used to be a sexual tease, a beckoning to his wanting prick, had become a flesh-and-blood individual. A sensitive one at that. He was beginning to understand why Simon resented his large, hot hands.

Because his fondling was not private. His caresses were open, blatant, crude. Simon responded most deeply to him, he realized, when they were alone. Shipwrecked on one of their own large beds. Over the last few days, his growing awareness of Simon's needs had begun to change Michael, even as he saw the way Simon had begun to evolve into a different man.

It was ironic, how Paddy's tavern for homosexuals was a place they needed to play the game to the hilt, to the very root. He sighed, disguising it as a yawn. With Simon half a step in front of him, he leaned into the sculpted ear, a habit he instinctively knew Simon would not fend off.

Sure enough, Simon did not move his head away when Michael let his tongue seek the soft labyrinth of his inner ear. As much as his lover seemed to like it, the sensation meant an automatic erection for Michael. Instant and incessant, pain producing after a while. And yet he couldn't help doing it.

"Ye know what to do. Play the game. I need to steer ye to the latties, so be submissive. Watch for Liam as we walk."

He felt Simon nod against his cheek. With his partner ahead of him, Michael guided him with hands resting lightly on his bare shoulders. He let one thumb work its way under a suspender. Damn, the skin was smooth, even on top of rippling muscle.

Watching his partner's dark hair framed against the colorful crowds, Michael thought back to last evening, to Simon dressed in black lace and a mantilla, a Carmen to his own amorous Escamillo. He'd never been drawn to the kind of men who dressed as women. Until last night. Seeing his lover festooned in drifts of black lace, his turquoise eyes a promise, Michael had never coveted him more. The memory brought his prick to sudden shifting, a cape before the bull. Just knowing Simon was an endless journey into uncharted bliss.

Starting two weeks ago when he'd met the sensuous Simon, and for the first time in his life as an agent, Michael was letting his groin dictate his choices. He commanded his mind to think about the inherent danger of the moment.

They were walking toward the latties, cubicles located in the rear of the tavern where men paid for a few minutes of private sex. Only last night, he and his partner had used one large lattie as the fulcrum of their perilous search for Chanda Gopala. Now, the path to the much-sought partitioned bedrooms was strewn with groping couples waiting their turn on lengths of board, would-be beds.

Their contact man was Liam, an ale server at the tavern for years.
